Glenmede Investment Management (GIM) is the investment management division of The Glenmede Trust Company, N.A., an independently owned wealth and investment management firm with approximately $50 billion in assets under management. As a boutique manager, GIM offers actively managed equity, fixed income, and alternative investment strategies to institutional investors, financial intermediaries, and their clients. GIM strategies are built on a long-standing foundation of fundamental and quantitative research, options-based approaches, and thematic investing across market capitalizations and are available in a variety of investment vehicles, including separately managed accounts (SMAs), model delivery, mutual funds, and ETFs.
This position will operate in a hybrid work environment, 3 days per week in the office (Philadelphia, PA).
OVERVIEW:
The Business Development Officer, as member of the Glenmede Investment Management (GIM) Distribution Team, is responsible for developing and structuring a business primarily covering the financial advisor channel. This role is responsible for sales and revenue generation and client relationship management for an established geographic territory in the Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) and Broker Dealer Financial Advisor channels, as well as other opportunistic relationships.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Business Development and Prospecting
- Responsible for developing business plan for respective region to prioritize top business prospects, drive activity and manage pipeline to meet established sales targets.
- Given Glenmede’s boutique model, independently self-generate and cultivate new business leads and referral sources within the assigned territory, rather than relying on a centralized wholesaling infrastructure.
- Balance new business acquisition, client and revenue retention, and deepen relationships with existing clients for opportunities for cross selling.
Client Service
- Collaborate with internal client service to support RFPs, due diligence inquiries, client queries, and provide updates on portfolio attribution and commentary.
- Collaborate with client service and legal on onboarding process for new relationships and updates as necessary to existing ones.
Networking and Relationship Building
- Cultivate relationships with centers of influence, including industry organizations and conference providers, to support brand building and prospecting, increase visibility, and drive thought leadership in market and respective territory.
- Provide input to internal partners on marketing, branding, and messaging.
- Remain intellectually inquisitive to additional knowledge in all areas (capital markets, investment strategies, investment vehicles including ETF’s and competitors) that can be used for personal growth and to share across the sales team.
Firm Building
- Additional duties may be assigned as required by the position.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in business, finance, economics or other related discipline.
- 7+ years’ experience in investment management distribution required.
- SIE exam, Series 7 / 63 required, or willingness to obtain.
- Demonstrated success as a self-starter, including the ability to independently build a territory business plan and self-generate a pipeline of leads and referral sources.
- Proficiency with Salesforce or a comparable CRM platform required to manage pipeline, activity tracking, and reporting.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a track record of building a book of business from the ground up, ideally in a boutique or lean distribution environment.
- Strong business development and sales planning skills with the ability to manage complex relationships.
- Proven decision-making and analytical skills and the ability to communicate complex topics and interpret concepts across equity, fixed income, and alternative asset classes.
- Strong relationship management skills.
- Familiarity with digital prospecting tools (e.g., LinkedIn Sales Navigator) to support independent lead generation.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills.
- Experience representing ETF’s
- Willingness to travel within assigned territory, as needed.
- CFA preferred, or working toward obtaining.
