The Research Associate will support a team of Analysts and Portfolio Managers by conducting data analysis and equity research focused on undervalued small- and smid-cap companies for institutional investment strategies. Responsibilities include gathering relevant data, building detailed financial models, assessing industry trends, and analyzing and valuing businesses to help identify new investment opportunities and maintain research on existing holdings. The role works closely with a collaborative, close-knit team to develop differentiated investment ideas and contribute directly to the fund’s long-term performance.
About The Team
The Small and Smid Equity Opportunities platform is a 9-member, SouthEast Michigan-based team within Loomis, Sayles & Company, overseeing more than $3 billion in assets across two equity strategies: Small Cap Value and Small/Mid Cap Core. The team employs a collaborative, bottom-up fundamental investment process, with active stock selection as the primary driver of long-term returns.
Job Responsibilities
- Knowledge of the business and portfolio holdings and ability to generate reports in summary or detail around these holdings
- Prepare ad-hoc analytical data as requested by the investment team
- Manage and run reporting for the investment team in a timely manner
- Develop real time monitors to track various portfolio positions
- Assumes responsibility for special projects as assigned including those requiring effective use of internal and external data and information management systems
- Works independently and exercises judgment in dealing with external entities as well as personnel in the firm
- Additional responsibilities as assigned or requested
Qualifications & Education Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in business or MBA; and /or relevant educational background with progress toward the CFA designation
- A passion for markets and investing
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
- The capacity to work individually, as well as in a team setting and the willingness to accept direction from portfolio managers and senior analysts
- A self starter with a positive outlook, an entrepreneurial spirit and a sense of excitement over helping our portfolios and strategies grow.
Additional Requirements
The position follows a hybrid schedule, requires being in the office Monday–Thursday, with WFH on Fridays.
Loomis Sayles is committed to offering competitive and equitable compensation. The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $100,000 USD. Your starting salary will be based on your experience, skills, qualifications and local benchmarking. This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual incentive award, which is based on individual and company performance. In addition to your compensation, you will have access to a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your health, well-being and financial security.
