Job Summary:
This individual will be a key member of the CMBS Investments team, involved in all facets of the investment and asset management lifecycles. The CMBS Opportunities strategy primarily invests in investment grade and below-investment grade Commercial Mortgage-Backed Securities (CMBS), both at original issuance and on the secondary market, and backed by fixed-rate, predominantly 5 – 10-year loans on stabilized properties diversified by geography and product type. These investments require in-depth analysis of underlying loans, and the CMBS hire will assist the team with reviewing loan summaries, performing credit research, loan document review and loan structuring, and loan covenant monitoring. More specifically, the CMBS Sr. Associate will run point on transactions, ensuring that large amounts of information is received and reviewed in a timely manner. The ideal candidate will have experience in underwriting and structuring commercial real estate loans, as well as strong project management skills. Strong candidates will be confident in expressing opinions and making decisions. The position requires a significant amount of reading and attention to detail.
Essential Functions:
- Assist in underwriting and structuring new issue loans and CMBS pools, including reviewing and synthesizing asset summary reports (ASRs), loan documents, third party reports (i.e. appraisals, environmental and engineering reports) preparing and reviewing models, and identifying and communicating potential risks
- Analyze rent rolls, income and expense statements and cash flow projections provided by borrowers and loan sellers and ensure that information provided is accurate
- Analyze loan structures from both financial and legal perspectives; propose alternative structures as necessary
- Manage the due diligence process, determining what information is required and is outstanding as information is received from loan sellers
- Liaise with loan sellers and servicers during the diligence and asset management process; site visit properties as necessary
- Assist in the preparation of comprehensive investment committee materials and communicate conclusions and investment risks to senior management for approval during Investment Committee and other periodic portfolio reviews
- Assist with the creation of various investor reporting materials
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, real estate, or a related field required
- 6 years of real estate finance experience, ideally in loan originations, asset management or servicing
- Strong knowledge of real estate concepts and acumen
- Experience leveraging AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude or similar) to improve workflow efficiency, automate repetitive tasks, and enhance analytical output
- Able to read, understand, and summarize documents in a short period of time
- Ability to work within a team in a fast-paced environment
- Strong critical thinking skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; will be responsible for regular communication with counterparties
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

The expected annual base salary range for this role is $135,000 - $190,000. Actual base salary will be determined by several components, including but not limited to: relevant experience, skills and qualifications, base salary of internal peers, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus and a variety of financial, wellbeing, and health / welfare benefits.
