Position Summary:
The Vice President of Accounting is responsible for all aspects of compliance, reporting, and monitoring for Octagon’s growing Investment Funds platform. We are looking for a professional with 10+ years of experience at an investment adviser or related financial services firm. Working knowledge and experience with Collateralized Loan Obligation (“CLO”) accounting is a plus.
The position will work independently, and in conjunction, with members of the Accounting Team and report to a Managing Director while taking on an integral role in helping to manage and contribute to Octagon’s success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyze Fund/Separately Managed Accounts (“SMA”) governing documents and ensure proper set up of reporting and structures
- Work with custodians and administrators to reconcile data and investigate discrepancies
- Prepare and review management and incentive fee calculations for assigned Funds/SMAs
- Review and sign off on monthly NAVs for assigned Funds
- Work with Investor Relations department to prepare investor reporting packages (monthly/ quarterly)
- Manage and coordinate annual Financial Reporting and audits for assigned Funds
- Manage, coordinate, and review annual Tax Reporting for assigned Funds, including investor K-1s
- Answer questions pertaining to Fund information and performance to both internal and external stakeholders
- Support the development of technology-based solutions designed to improve internal recordkeeping, monitoring, and reporting capabilities
- Proactively take on ad hoc projects and provide support for new business initiatives, as needed
Areas of Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of relevant experience with Investment Funds Reporting
- Understanding of CLO mechanics and documentation a plus
- Working knowledge of WSO software platform a plus
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong analytical skills, and exemplary attention to detail
- Ability to multi‐task, be proactive, work independently, and work effectively under pressure (often under deadlines and changing priorities)
- Comfortable interacting and building relationships with all teams (including senior management) across the firm and affiliated organizations
- Highly motivated, proactive team player with a positive attitude
