Overview
Allspring is seeking an experienced institutional distribution leader to serve as Head of Institutional Distribution, East Region. This is a senior player/coach role responsible for driving business development, deepening strategic client relationships, and leading a team of institutional professionals across the Eastern United States.
The successful candidate will be accountable for delivering new business, expanding existing client relationships, and increasing Allspring's market share across pensions, defined contribution plans, endowments/foundations, consultants, and other institutional investors. Approximately 70% of the role will be dedicated to direct sales and client coverage activities, with 30% focused on leadership, coaching, talent development, and regional business management.
This individual will help shape regional strategy, drive commercial execution, and serve as a connector between clients, consultants, investment professionals, and senior leadership. The ideal candidate combines a proven record of institutional asset gathering with demonstrated success leading teams, developing talent, and driving business results. As a member of the Institutional Distribution Leadership Team, this individual will help shape the strategic direction and growth of the institutional business.
We currently operate in a hybrid working model, whereby you will be required to work in-office 4 days per week.

Responsibilities
Leadership
- Lead the East Region Institutional Distribution Team, establishing clear priorities, performance expectations, and execution standards.
- Recruit, coach, develop, and retain a high-performing team of institutional sales and relationship management professionals.
- Foster a culture centered on commercial excellence, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct regular pipeline reviews, coaching sessions, and business planning discussions to accelerate team productivity and opportunity conversion.
- Partner closely with institutional leadership to execute strategic initiatives and drive business growth across the region.
- Facilitate information sharing, market intelligence, and best practices across teams to maximize organizational effectiveness.
Business Development & Strategic Relationship Management
- Maintain direct responsibility for a portfolio of strategic institutional clients, prospects, and intermediary relationships.
- Proactively originate, qualify, and pursue new institutional client opportunities, leveraging market insights, professional networks, and strategic prospecting to expand Allspring's client base and revenue growth .
- Develop and execute regional business plans designed to generate new mandates and grow assets under management.
- Build senior-level relationships with CIOs, investment staff, trustees, consultants, and other key decision-makers.
- Lead pursuits across a broad range of investment solutions, including fixed income, equities, multi-asset, and customized mandates.
- Coordinate investment team engagement and deliver compelling, consultative solutions that address client objectives and portfolio challenges.
- Drive opportunities from initial prospecting through mandate funding, ensuring disciplined pipeline management and forecasting.
- Partner with consultant relations professionals to strengthen Allspring's visibility, positioning, and access within key consultant organizations.
Market Intelligence & Business Strategy
- Develop a deep understanding of institutional market trends, client challenges, consultant dynamics, and competitive positioning.
- Leverage market intelligence, pipeline analytics, and client feedback to identify emerging opportunities and prioritize resources.
- Translate marketplace developments into actionable insights for distribution leadership, product strategy, and investment teams.
- Help shape regional and national distribution strategies to improve Allspring's competitive position and commercial effectiveness.
Business Management
- Accountable for achieving regional asset growth, sales, and retention objectives.
- Drive disciplined territory management, pipeline governance, forecasting, and sales reporting.
- Monitor progress against regional goals related to sales, revenues, client retention, market penetration, and strategic initiatives.
- Oversee resource allocation and business priorities to maximize productivity and commercial outcomes.
- Ensure adherence to all regulatory, compliance, and risk management requirements.
Knowledge & Expertise
- Maintain deep knowledge of institutional investment markets, asset classes, portfolio construction, consultant dynamics, and competitive offerings.
- Engage credibly with investment committees, consultants, and senior investment professionals on market conditions, portfolio strategy, and investment solutions.
- Act as a visible ambassador for Allspring within the institutional marketplace through conferences, industry events, and thought leadership opportunities.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of experience in institutional distribution, consultant relations, or a related asset management role.
- Demonstrated ability to balance personal production with team leadership while driving regional business results.
- Demonstrated success developing and growing relationships with institutional investors and investment consultants.
- Proven origination mindset with a demonstrated ability to identify, pursue, and convert new institutional client opportunities.
- Proven track record of generating new business and closing complex institutional investment mandates.
- Prior experience managing, coaching, and developing institutional sales or client-facing professionals.
- Deep understanding of institutional investment markets, asset allocation, portfolio construction, and manager selection processes.
- Strong executive presence with the ability to engage senior investment professionals, consultants, and client decision-makers.
- Excellent relationship management, communication, business development and origination skills.
- BA/BS required.
- Series 7/63 (or ability to obtain).
Preferred Qualifications
- Series 24.
- CFA Charterholder.
- MBA, CIMA, CAIA, or other relevant professional designations.

Compensation
Base Pay Range: $250,000 - $300,000
Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary bonus programs, or other annual or non-annual incentive or sales plans.)
