OVERVIEW:
The D. E. Shaw group seeks an analytically and technically oriented individual to join the D. E. Shaw Investment Management (DESIM) group as a technical strategist within the portfolio strategy team. DESIM develops and manages active equity and multi-asset class investment strategies that complement the firm’s longstanding hedge fund strategies, leveraging advanced research and technology to serve institutional clients globally. This strategist will focus on the research, development, and analytical evaluation of investment products, collaborating closely with portfolio strategy and investment teams. WHAT YOU'LL DO DAY-TO-DAY:
- Contribute to the development and customization of new investment products through quantitative analysis and portfolio design.
- Research, design, and help implement enhancements to existing investment strategies, focusing on portfolio construction, risk modeling, and strategy robustness.
- Perform in-depth portfolio and risk analysis to identify structural weaknesses, concentration risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Produce clear, rigorous technical analyses and communicate findings effectively to both quantitative and non-quantitative stakeholders.
- Support investor and client engagements by providing technical insight on portfolio construction, risk, and performance.
- Present findings to investors and clients, including preparing comprehensive presentation materials, tailoring explanations to diverse audiences, addressing technical questions in real time, and ensuring that insights are actionable and aligned with strategic objectives.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- A bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, finance, or economics; an advanced degree is a plus.
- Basic programming in Python (or similar languages) and a deep interest in developing the ability to write well-structured, testable, and maintainable code.
- An analytical, curious, and innovative mindset, with keen attention to detail, a systematic approach to problem-solving, and interest in financial markets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical documentation and present complex ideas to collaborators across the firm.
- Proficiency with numerical and statistical methods is preferred.
- The expected annual base salary for this position is $150,000 to $250,000.
